Automates the process of backing up your important data and saves the results on a different partition, on an external hard-disk/USB memory stick or burns it on CDs, DVDs or Blu-rays.

The importance of keeping copies of our most vulnerable and sensitive data cannot be stressed enough. Nero BackItUp offers you a reliable way of making backups of your hard disks, external drives, and any mobile device in a straightforward and simple way. Its backup scheduler can even help you to automate your backup routines so you can forget about your data security and concentrate on more important things.

As part of the Nero Platinum Suite, you can also purchase and install this tool as a standalone product. The installation process itself is not that simple, though. You’ll need to go through the Suite’s trial first, and from there download this tool as one of the various modules available. Once you’ve installed it, you’re only half-way to enjoy the beauties of Nero BackItUp, as it may tell you that the product needs updating… All in all, it may take you a tad longer than you thought to have the program up and running. However, I must admit it’s worth the wait.

As a backup tool, this is an attractive and nice-to-work-with alternative to many of its less user-friendly competitors. Its interface follows a wizard-based philosophy, guiding you through the various steps required to finish the backup task of your choice. The few steps required follow a 100% logical flow – select your files, the target, and the frequency. You can save your backup jobs for later use, and you can also schedule its frequency from “back up manually” to “continuously”, which will immediately back up any new or modified file. As for mobile devices, they follow their own steps, which will also guide you all the way from the initial connection stage to the final backup file.

One great thing about this tool is that you can set it up to keep previous versions of your backed up files if you wish. Instead of overwriting any file with the same name and location, you may want to keep all their older versions, which will also guarantee that even if the newest one cannot be restored, you can always fall back on any of the file’s previous versions to save you starting from scratch again.

Backup files can be compressed and encrypted for extra security, and if you choose a target location in the cloud the overall level of security will always be much higher than if you choose to store your data on any external drive, re-recordable media, or even a network.

As said, Nero BackItUp can be purchased individually or as part of Nero’s Platinum Suite, where you’ll find six more and equally useful tools. If value for money is your main concern, purchasing the Suite is a no-brainer, as the price difference is really negligible.
